Product Care:

Below is a list of tips to follow to ensure your purchase stays beautiful for many years to come.

Potential Dangers

  • Extreme Heat: Epoxy resin is a type of durable plastic. Exposing your resin piece to flames will burn/melt it.
  • Exposure to the sun: While short term exposure will not ruin the piece, long term exposure will cause the piece to turn yellow. The resin we use is UV stabilized, which means it will take a lot longer than non-stabilized resins to turn yellow.
  • Sharp Objects: Anything with a sharp edge can scratch your resin piece.
  • Submerging in liquids: Submersion will cause tarnishing to happen more quickly than usual. Don’t submerge in liquids, even if it is just water. Quick submersion for cleaning is acceptable.
  • Chemicals: Aggressive chemicals such as acetone will damage resin. Alcohol can potentially damage the surface too.
  • Abrasive objects: Abrasive cloths, sandpaper, toothpaste and similar items fall into this category. While one scratch might not be obvious, multiple scratches will make your resin piece look cloudy.
  • Oils: Oil can ruin the surface of any jewelry. It might not be very noticeable, but the damage will start to show over time if not cleaned regularly. This includes oils produced by your skin and hair. A great way to avoid this is by cleaning your jewelry before storage and removing jewelry when going to bed at night.
  • Food Contact: Most epoxy resins do not have FDA approval certifying direct contact with food. Once the epoxy is cured it becomes an inert plastic, but there are plenty of inert plastic products we wouldn’t consider food safe. It is still however suggested that you avoid long term food contact and that short term food contact should be OK. It is up to you to decide what you consider “short” and “long” term. Unless specifically stated in the product listing, the resin we use is not FDA approved.

Cleaning:

  • Wash with a mild dish soap.
  • Rinse with warm water.
  • Dry with a non-abrasive cloth.
